Overview
The Master of Science in Accounting programme is designed for students who are qualified members of recognised professional accounting bodies. It aims to develop students’ high-level research and analytical skills by combining the knowledge they gained from professional education with a workplace-based research project.
Programme Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate mastery of conventions and doctrines of accounting, and their strategic applications in diverse contexts.
- Demonstrate critical awareness of major contemporary issues in accounting.
- Critically evaluate issues relating to accounting systems and practices and the roles of business professionals.
- Communicate and interpret business propositions and justify complex ideas and solutions to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Formulate strategic initiatives, appraise alternatives, critically evaluate implementation outcomes and provide performance feedback in diverse contexts.
- Exercise high level judgments over strategic issues in organisations.
- Plan and executive applied research projects with research principles and methods applicable to the field of accounting.
Programme Structure
A student will complete a programme of study comprising the following units:

Entry Requirements
- Membership of a recognised professional accounting body; and
- Successful completion of an educational programme that qualify a person to become a full professional member of a recognised professional accounting body.
Recognition of Prior Learning
- Students who have successfully completed an educational programme that qualify them to become a full professional member of a recognised professional accounting body will be awarded an exemption from ACC4801 Professional Education in Accounting.
Programme Rules
- Students must complete ACC4801 before enrolling in ACC4901 unless exemptions are awarded.
- Students must successfully complete all units to be eligible to the award of the Master of Science TCZ unless exemptions are awarded.
